New Government one-stop shop to be officially opened in Woden

A new government one-stop shop in Woden is helping people manage Centrelink, Medicare, tax and other government business on the go.

Minister for Human Services Senator the Hon Marise Payne and Senator for the Australian Capital Territory Zed Seselja will officially open the Woden one-stop shop in Penrhyn House today.

Minister Payne said Canberra residents are now enjoying the benefits of having Centrelink, Medicare and Australian Tax Office (ATO) services under the one roof.

“Canberra locals now have access to a wider range of staff and services at one location, including specialist services provided by a Social Worker and Financial Information Services Officer,” Minister Payne said.

“Staff at the Woden Service Centre can also help people register for myGov, so they can access online services for Medicare, the Australian Taxation Office, Centrelink, the Department of Employment’s Australian JobSearch, Personally Controlled e-Health Record, Child Support, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and the National Disability Insurance Scheme.”

Senator for the Australian Capital Territory Zed Seselja welcomed the introduction of the one-stop shop and praised the staff for making it such a success.

“The Woden Service Centre is the latest in Canberra to offer combined government services under the one roof, joining more than 160 communities nationwide,” Senator Seselja said.

“This is the right time for this move. Demand for face-to-face Medicare services is reducing nationwide, as people take advantage of other options like claiming at the doctor’s surgery, the department’s suite of Express Plus apps and myGov for online services.

“Last financial year, more than 85 per cent of all patient claims for GP services were lodged electronically at the doctor’s practice.

“While many people are choosing alternative service options to complete their business, staff will be available at the Woden Service Centre to provide face-to-face services to those who require more personal or intensive support.”
