Upgrades at Havelock House a win for Canberra’s cultural and community groups

Havelock House is in prime condition for residents following the completion of a $135,665 refurbishment at the community housing provider.

Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash said the upgrades are an example of the Australian Government investing in and addressing disadvantage in Australia’s regions.

“The Federation Room, kitchen, and bathroom facilities will give residents and community organisations a great space to use, as will the state-of-the-art audio visual equipment,” Minister Nash said.

“This critical community investment which delivers modern and accessible facilities for the Canberra community demonstrates the Coalition Government’s strong commitment to the ACT and its residents,” Minister Nash said today.

Senator for ACT Zed Seselja, who was on site to officially open the project today, welcomed the much-needed refurbishments and repairs.

“Havelock House addresses housing affordability in the region by providing much needed share accommodation for over 100 residents,” Senator Seselja said.

“These upgrades will be welcomed by both residents and local cultural and community groups, with up to 2,000 people per year expected to use the facilities.”

Managing Director of Havelock Housing Association Inc Neil Skipper said the renovations to the Federation Room at Havelock House are well and truly appreciated. The room was in dire need of improvement.

"The facility offers the latest in technology to community organisations of whom many are looking after the most vulnerable members of our community,” Mr Skipper said.

“Grants such as this really do make a difference to community organisations such as ourselves, who otherwise would find it much more difficult to achieve the outcomes that we do.”

The $135,665 Havelock House Refurbishment and Repairs project was jointly funded by the Australian Government ($130,000) and Havelock Housing Association Inc ($5,665).
