Canberrans, it’s time to have your say

Liberal Senator for the ACT, Zed Seselja, is calling for Canberrans to add their voice to a new Senate inquiry looking at the consequences of moving jobs to regional Australia.

“Just 10 days remain for Canberrans to have their say on why Canberra is a great place to live and work and why Commonwealth agencies have had such success being located in Canberra” said Senator Seselja.

“The environment of Canberra, which brings the bush into the city, means that it is a great city to live, work and raise a family.

“In Canberra, we’ve got the best of both worlds: we’ve got restaurants and bars that easily rival much bigger cities, in a spot that has all the natural beauty of regional Australia.  We’ve also got Australia’s best collection of cultural and art institutions.

“These are just some of the reasons why we are able to attract and keep the talented people who staff our major public service agencies, and why previous attempts to move even small agencies out of Canberra have proved to be problematic.

“It is important to ensure that Canberra residents have the jobs they need as a community to continue to grow and prosper. To this end, it is pleasing that we have seen the unemployment rate come down in Canberra under the Coalition Government, with the latest figures showing a 12.3 per cent increase in Commonwealth investment in Canberra.

“Submissions close next Friday (10th March) and Canberrans should take the opportunity to counter the Nationals submissions to the contrary. I will be making a submission and I’d encourage other Canberrans to do the same,” Senator Seselja concluded.

Submissions can be made here.
