Senator for the ACT, the Hon Zed Seselja, today congratulated Canberra finalists, following the announcement of the National Landcare Awards at a gala dinner in Melbourne last night.

Senator Seselja said the contribution of the local finalists would continue to make a real difference across region long after their projects and actions had finished.

The ACT 2016 National Landcare Award finalists are:

Mrs Wendy Rainbird, Farrer Ridge ParkCare Group

Mr John Starr, Gold Creek Station

Mr Martin Lind, Southern ACT Catchment Group

“I am proud of the contribution that Landcarers such as Farrer Ridge ParkCare Group, Gold Creek Station and Southern ACT Catchment Group are making in the ACT,” Senator Seselja said.

“Their work is a great example of the dedication of our local community and the remarkable things the National Landcare Programme achieves.

“We can only improve agricultural productivity and the environment in the ACT if the future of our precious natural resource base is assured.

“I congratulate all the winners and finalists at this week’s national awards.”

Through the National Landcare Programme, the Australian Government is investing $1 billion over four years to help communities deliver more sustainable agriculture as well as supporting the protection, conservation and rehabilitation of Australia’s natural environment.

The National Landcare Awards, which took place at the Melbourne Convention Centre, were presented during the 2016 National Landcare Conference. Based around the theme ‘Collaborative Communities – Landcare in Action’, the conference offers insights from community leaders and innovators on the latest trends and technologies in natural resource management.
