The Liberal-National government is investing in our local sporting facilities by delivering $50,000 to the Molonglo Juggernauts AFL Club to upgrade and improve the facilities at Stirling Oval to help increase and diversify participation and get more Canberrans involved in sport.

The investment is part of the Community Sport Infrastructure Grant program that is upgrading local facilities across Australia and the ACT, helping to drive increased participation in sports and physical activity.

Senator for the ACT, Zed Seselja, said the Liberal-National Government is committed to supporting local grassroots sports because of the wider health, social and community benefits that come from getting involved and participating in sport.

“It is a key priority of our government to promote the social and health benefits of physical activity and sport, and I will continue to push to ensure our local sporting groups in Canberra are invested in, to upgrade the facilities of our local clubs and encourage more Canberrans to get involved and get active.”

“The ground facilities at Stirling Oval haven’t been upgraded in over thirty years, and this grant will help bring them in line with the facilities available in other regions of the ACT.

Plans for the upgrades include an electronic scoreboard and upgraded seating for spectators, so supporters are under cover during the cold winter months. The club also hopes to upgrade bathroom facilities with access for disabled supports, as these facilities are currently not available at the ground.

“The Liberal National Government is able to make these important investments in our local sporting clubs because of our responsible economic policies.”

“This funding for community sports infrastructure builds on the grants already delivered across the ACT to the Canberra Netball Association, Southlands Tennis Club and Arawang Netball Association, continuing the strong investment from the Liberal-National Government in the ACT,” Senator Seselja concluded.
